I showed this to my coworker, and he shrugged not understanding why these brakes are so insane. Correct me if I'm wrong too (prolly am since I didn't read the source article) are they carbon-ceramic brakes?

If that's the Mustang mule I think it is, then yes, the front brakes are carbon ceramic.

I'd say they're likely ceramics. Generally steel rotors have a certain amount of shininess to them, whereas ceramic rotors tend to have a more rough, matte look.
